Maker: Porcacchi Da Castilione, Tomaso Date: c. 1570 Condition: Good A small world map based on Mercator's projection. Some of the printing is faint making the details difficult to discern. The map incorporates many of the misconceptions of the time; the North-West passage, the huge southern antarctic continent, the islands of the arctic, Australia as yet partially discovered but linked to the south. A very important early map which graphically shows our knowledge of the time.
