Another Side View of Chair from a Higher Perspective Offered is a fine quality, attractive and functional, antique Eastlake maple rocking chair. The chair originally belonged to my grandparents who lived in Canada. It was then passed on to my aunt who used the rocker in a bedroom, a sitting room, and a sewing room over the years. She identified the rocker in her estate papers as Eastlake Canadian c. 1880, made of maple with turned legs and piercing and rococo design. Description: The rocking chair is made of maple and is fairly small in scale, making it an ideal piece for a nursery, bedroom, sewing room, etc. It could be used in a living room but would probably look out of place with large scale, heavy pieces. It has turned legs and a pattern on the back, which is formed with both pierced and raised designs. The wood pattern at the seat base is a beadlike pattern. The chair seat is a spring construction. I imagine that the chair was reupholstered over the years but it does not appear to have been refinished. Based on my aunt’s documentation and our research, we would guess that the rocking chair was made in the late Victorian period or around the turn of the century, perhaps between 1880 and 1900. T are no markings to identify the maker. Condition: The rocking chair is generally in very good condition, considering its age. T are a few blemishes, most of which would be expected with any antique of this vintage. T are 2 wooden beads missing on one corner of the seat base. (These would not be obvious at all if touched up with a little stain. We wanted to leave it as is for the photos so that the buyer could see the actual condition.) Second, t are some upholstery nails missing at the back of the seat as seen on the right side in photo 3. The upholstery is not loose in that area, and the chair has been used just that way for many years. The nails could easily be replaced. Otherwise, t are a few light scratches and nicks and t, but they aren’t obvious and don’t seem to detract from the chair’s overall attractiveness. Pick-Up/Shipping: The rocking chair is offered on a PICK UP basis. We are conveniently located near major Interstates and highways in Schaumburg, Illinois northwest of Chicago, near the Woodfield Mall.
