Quite an interesting and somewhat significant maritime antique. This small ditty bag appears to have been made and owned by Rodman Swift a notable mariner from the New Bedford area, and whi would have been a contemporary of Clifford Ashley, author of the Ashley Book of Knots.Note the extremely fine splicing and knotting detail on the implements contained in the bag.I acquired this piece at a flea market this past summer and discovered the signed New Bedford Yacht Club 1940 membership card wrapped with sail twine among the contents. The card is clearly signed "Rodman Swift". He was a traveller and explorer whose papers are held at the Martha's Vineyard Maritime Museum.
