Antique Meissen "Monkey Band" orchestra figurine, I believe to be perhaps the conductor of the orchestra. Part of a collection that I have had for many years; I think from the 18th century. I inherited these figurines long ago. Standing 5 3/4 inches tall with beautifully detailed face and clothing. Marked on the bottom with the blue crossed swords, the number "18" in red, and incised number in the porcelain "120". There is some damage to the figurine (it seems that very few of these early Meissen figurines survived without damage). The left hand is broken at the cuff and is missing. I assume this hand held the conductor's baton and it is missing also. At the top and bottom of this left hand cuff are chips. There is also a chip on the right hand cuff that the figurine has placed on his hip. The toes of the right foot are broken and missing. There is also a small chip at the top of the back of the hat and also one chip at the bottom of the left hand side of the jacket. Most of this damage is shown in the pictures. All of this damage could be restored by a professional ceramic or porcelain artist. I had intended to have it restored, but never got around to it. Beautiful craftsmanship and detailing in this figurine. Displays well and would make a great addition to anyone's collection, repaired or not! Low starting price! Please keep read more
