Antique Mid 1800s Money Box Hughs NE Key $100 Bank Nte WOW - my husband and I had to drive way up north in Illinois - almost to Wisconsin - recently to pick something up, so we took the opportunity to shop along the way. I have SO MANY cool things for you this week. Especially some fabulous and very old farm primitives, some of them barn fresh. I’m also still listing some items from the Hinckley estate sale. Be sure to check out my other listings! So, I'm going through my treasure trove of purchases, pulling from the top of the pile, and each item is just as exciting as the last - this one is soooo cool! What I have is an antique, 1800's strong box that measures 10 3/4" wide, 5 1/4" deep and 2 3/4" high. Treasure number one is that is still has its original key and lock, treasure number two is that it has the name of the former owner, E.R. Hughes painted on the side, and Mega treasure number three is that is has an original 1877 bank note from the First National Bank in North Bend Nebraska, made out to Henry Hughs, in the amount of $100.00 - how cool is that! The box I'm assuming, was filled with papers and at some point in time probably exposed to heat. The note is affixed to the bottom of the box in two halves.
