This is a miniature portrait of Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of Napoleon I. This is painted on bone or a similar natural material in a pieced ivory frame with an etched metal surrounding the oval picture. The colors are very nice. Josephine is wearing a simple white chiffon dress. The portrait is signed, however, the name is not clear enough to read. This portrait is likely from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Josephine de Beauharnais was born in 1763 and married Napoleon I in 1796. She became Empress of France in 1804 and divorced Napoleon in 1810. The frame measures 6" x 5" and the oval picture measures 2 ½" x 3 ½".
