ANTIQUE MOTHER OF PEARL THREAD WINDER This is a lovely antique Chinese mother of pearl gaming counter or thread winder. It dates from around 1750. It has a 'double dolphin' shape, named after the shape of the 'dophin' heads you can see each side of the counter at the top corners. There are doves on one side, and a flower on the other. These winders were originally created as games counters, but soon found another use by Georgian ladies as winders for small amounts of silk and kept in their workboxes. It dates from around 1750. It measures 1.35 inches by 0.75 inches. (3.20 cm by 2.10cms). I have shown it with a US cent and a UKpenny for scale. I am happy to combine please ask about postage saving BEFORE making any payment!.
