Antique Oil Painting of the American Schooner J.W. Clise. Signed. 20" x 26" framed. Oil on artist board. Signed lower right A. Pearlman. Untouched condition. There are some light s urface abarsions , nothing too serious and it could probably use a cleaning. A nice vintage painting of a classic American Schooner. SHI at cost. No reserve. There are a number of references inc luding photographs of this ship on the w eb. It was built in Seattle , Washington in 1904 and was owned 1920s-1939 by the Putnam Lumber Company based in Shamrock, Florida. Its captain was Richard Copsey and home port Jacksonville. The ship became disabled several hundred miles south of Mobile during an August 1940 hurricane and was abandoned by the crew. It was towed to Mobile by the Coast Guard and was probably scuttled or abandoned.
