Offered for sale is a Mexico cityscape. Just obtained a pair of works by this artist, Bert Pumphrey, and the other is currently listed. Fresh from a deceased estate out of Gulf Stream, FL and St. Louis, MO.Signed bottom left '65 Bert Pumphrey. Oil on masonite. Framed in a deep gold frame, which is treated to look distressed (60s style!)Measures: Frame: 5 1/2" w x 40" L x 1 1/4" D. Board: 4 3/4" x 39"Bert Pumphrey 1916 - 2000.He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but resided mostly in South Pasadena, California. As a young fifteen year old he entered the Art Institute of Chicago by lying about his age. Sadly for him, he was expelled shortly after once his true age was found out. Later on he received a scholarship to the University of California Los Angeles, where he was able to continue on his work [2] . Quickly after having his first one-man show at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, he moved to Mexico and painted there. By looking at his paintings from that time, you can tell they have a very strong Mexican cultural influence behind them. As one could never quite pinpoint an exact location of the painting, the feeling of Mexico was always there. Pumphrey has had nine more major one-man shows after moving to Mexico.
