Welcome to Westcountry Antiques. Here I have for sale a lovely Victorian oil painting on board. Painting depicts a river scene with some people fishing, with trees in the background with a lovely sky. Painting is signed James Ward. I have researched the name and I believe it to be James Charles Ward who was an active and well respected victorian lansdape painter 1830-1875 (please see arcadja . com and search on this artist) His auction estimates seem to be regularly in the hundreds of ££'s. Beautifully painted in great detail with lovely colours. See photos please to appreciate item condition, remember please this is an old painting! But it in really good condition, it has been out of the frame for a while as it was very dirty but I have cleaned it up well. It has some small spots of paint on it which look like it has been on a wall whilst decorating! But apart from that, n o tears / holes etc, in very good condition. It is unframed so lighter to pack and send but a big piece of board so not light. Measures 45cm high x 59cm long. My Grandfather (and great grandfather) were antiques dealers, my grandfather retired in the 1940’s. He packed everything up from his business and stored it in the attic, where it has sat ever since! He passed away recently and left his items to me. So I am now in the process of selling on his collections.
