The Tulip design on this antique salt glazed stoneware jug is a wonderful example of early American pottery. The coloring used on the jug is true cobalt blue on a soft brownish-gray. The jug has a volume of 1.5 gallons. Measurements are:Height- 11 1/4" x 7 1/2" bottom diameter, 1 " diameter in jug top opening. The handle on the jug is firmly attached. On the right hand side of the handle w the blue color was added, t is a very small surface crack. It is so minor that it does not show in the photo's. Below the blue tulip t is a hair line surface crack. The hair line surface crack continues to the bottom of the jug and is about 1 1/2" long. Please check the pictures on this listing. T is a slight chip that is 1/2" wide on the lip of the jug opening. The chip is so minor, it does not take away from the overall beauty of the jug. We all have a photo, of the chip, show with a pencil. The jug has been decorated by hand and turned individually on a potter's wheel more than a century ago. That is why other irregularities i.e. ~ blue dot near handle, kiln blemish, bump's in surface and oval spot on one side. Please let me know if you would like additional photo's!
