Antique OSCAR ONKEN American Made Long Case Grandfather Clock . The clock was created for Shop of the Crafters , the Arts and Crafts furniture shop founded in 1904 by Oscar Onken (1848-1948) in Cincinnati, Ohio.Very tall at 94 inches, the Oscar Onken clock features a mahogany case with slim columns on each side of the clock face, and a swan neck pediment with three ball and spire finials. Each side panel has a carved wood inset. Both front doors are beveled glass, and the dial door is arched. Circa: 1906.The square, brass foliate face has Arabic numbers on a silver chapter ring. Above the rolling moon dial is a painted nautical scene featuring ships sailing on the high seas. There are two black metal hands, two wind holes, and an 8-day movement. The clock chimes on the half and strikes on the hour. Inside the case door are 2 brass weights and 2 chains. Each chain ends in a carved wooden acorn.On the back of the clock is a partial paper label: Shop of the Crafters OSCAR ONKEN CO. CINCINNATI .Oscar Onken established his Shop of the Crafters on Fourth & Park (and later, Cutter) Streets in Cincinnati. The shop opened in 1904 and closed in 1919.
