******************************************************************************************* ANTIQUE EBONIZED BRONZE FIGURE SCULPTURES "BLACKAMOOR TORCS" *************************************************************************************************** Featured this listing is an elaborate pair of "Blackamoor" torcs. Originating in Italy from the studio of Andrea Brustolon (1662-1732) and going on throughout Italy and France, this sculpture genre celebrated the aristocratic and royal Moors of North Africa. The form continues today but in resin with bronze coatings, selling from the low hundreds to the $1,000-2,000 range. Listed are a pair intricately bronze cast with exquisite royal garb of soldiers who protected the royals, and in this case, lit the way, with their long torches of brass. The seller purchased them from an antique dealer who had found them in an estate in Sarasota, Florida. T are no markings and we have not been able to ascertain the maker and year of production. Each is hand painted to distinguish the black skin and the lower base. The exposed bronze has been given a dark wash to accentuate the deep carvings in the headdress, uniform, torch, and upper base. With burning candles in the torches, the effect will be riveting! DIMENSIONS: 8" wide x 16" high x 5" in depth; each is 8.5 pds. CONDITION: Exellent
