Antique Primitive Pennsylvania Redware Wide Mouth Apple Butter or Preserve Jar Greenish Brown Glaze For your Antique Redware Collection Details Description: Redware Crock, Apple Butter or Preserve Jar with greenish brown glaze on the inside and outside. The background glaze is dotted with black specs indicative of manganese glazing. The crock has a flat base with flared rounded sides rising to a rolled plain rim. It has a wide mouth. The crock is undecorated. Date: Mid to late 19th Century. Origin: Southeastern Pennsylvania Size: ~ 5 1/4" in height, 5 1/4" in diameter on top and 3 3/4" in diameter on at the base. Maker: Unknown Marks: Unmarked Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This a very nice Pennsylvania crock with an unusual color glaze. Condition: Crock is in excellent condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no hairlines, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. It has crazing to the glaze with some glaze loss throughout the outside and inside surfaces (one area has a large spot where the glaze is lost-please see photos). It also has several small chips to the edge of the base and a few chips to the inside of the rim one fairly large (please see photos).
