Rare antique black and white photo booklet with 8 printed photos of scenes from Cripple Creek, Colorado (5 of the 8 are specifically of mines and/or drilling ). Would have cost two cents to mail, but never was. Says: Swackenberg Bros., Pharmacists, Cripple Creek, Colorado on lower left front cover. On back cover states is was printed by the Douglas Publishing Company in Buffalo, New York O.I.D. (am not sure what that abbreviation means). Guess this is like an early thinner paper version of what was later fold-out postcards. Front cover says: Souvenir Letter - Cripple Creek, Colorado. Cover feels like a real thin linen-type paper. It has perforated edges where I guess the sender would have sealed it then it could be torn open by the receiver. Those perforated edges have small tears due to age (and because they extend beyond the perimeter of the photos inside, thus there has been nothing to support them all these years.) Otherwise it is structurally sound. Inside photo pages are in excellent condition. Entire thing is starting to show slight discoloration due to age....as will we at that age! 8 photos are printed back to back, head to head on four pages. Booklet is bound by two staples in the middle seam. Inner cover says: Cripple Creek, Colorado, ___________ 190_ but since it was never sent, the date was never filled in. Historic read more
