Original etching by the 18th century French artist Picart, Bernard (Paris, 1673 - Amsterdam, 1733) CYGNUS TRANSFORMED TO A SWAN AND PHAETON'S SISTERS INTO POLARS A beautiful engraved plate with decorative borders from Le Temple des Muses, a suite of mythology engravings by Bernard Picart le Romain, published by Chatelain in Amsterdam in 1733 AD. The title of this engraving is below the image in French, German, Dutch and English. The measurement of the image is 250 * 345 mm with ample margin. The engraving is in quite good condtion, there is some serious damage in the left hand top margin which has been repaired using paper from the time. Please check the images. This antique print is excellent for framing. Bernard Picart excelled chiefly in the fields of portraiture, ornamental designs and mythological and religious subjects, both after the old masters and upon his own creation. In the former category he was commissioned for portraits of Philip, Duke of Orleans, Eugene Francois, Prince of Savoy, Don Luis, Prince of the Asturias and many others. Thank you for looking.
