Antique RAMOS REJANO Sevilla SPANISH Ceramic TILE Antique RAMOS REJANO Sevilla SPANISH Ceramic TILE This is an antique ceramic tile featuring a wonderful art nouveau image of two men, birds, dolphins a fountain and floral flourishes - the scene appears to be mythological or allegorical in nature. The images on the tile are incised - the technique looks a little like tube lining, but I think is closer to some type of sgraffito technique, maybe cuerda seca. The image is symmetrical and the tile features a number of different colors - royal blue, green and light blue with an application of metallic bronze or copper to some of the figures (see angled "reflective" shots of the tile). I think that the glaze might be classified as majolica although I'm not sure in this case. The tile is marked on its backside "Ramos Rejano Sevilla" in a circle (see close-up photo). T is still a considerable amount of grout affixed to the backside of the tile as it was taken out of a wall. It measures 11" by 5 ½" with a thickness of ½". It is in very good condition with some chipping or loss of glaze to the front of the tile - please examine the photos for all damage. Ramos Rejano is an older firm - I'm unable to precisely date the piece, but it is certainly 1st half of the 20th century, maybe early 20th century. Very nice display piece....great addition read more
