antique red and brown wax seal of Christopher I Margrave of Baden - Baden c.1500 An antique red and brown wax seal of Christopher I Margrave of Baden - Baden c.1500. There are 3 small pieces of paper visible to the sides of the outer body where the seal was originally attached. There are 2 old identification labels to the rear, possibly from once being part of a private or museum collection. Christopher I of Baden (13 November 1453 – 19 April 1527) was the Margrave of Baden-Baden from 1475 to 1515. Christopher was the eldest son of Charles I, Margrave of Baden-Baden and Catherine of Austria , a sister of Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor . He built the New Castle and moved there in 1479. In 1515 he divided his possessions between his sons Bernhard, Philip and Ernest. Thus, Bernhard founded the so-called "Bernardine line" of Baden-Baden and Ernest founded the "Ernestine line" of Baden-Durlach . Size Diameter 3 1/8 inches. Condition This item is in good overall condition for it's age with light wear and markings. There is some gaps to the main red wax design and a slight crack to the edge of the red wax.
