OLD - Antique Repousee Silver Amethyst Tie Stick Pin Description For auction is an ‘OLD - Antique Silver w/Amethyst Tie Stick Pin.’ It is unmarked from what I can see, unless it’s marked under the back rim, where the patina is heaviest. I’m not definite then on the silver fineness; however, I do know the metal is not silver plated. At the very least, the silver is no less than .835 fineness. The amethyst is genuine. The pin dates to the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and measures 2” in total length. The repousee silver pin head w/amethyst is 7/16” L x 3/8” W x 1/4” D. The amethyst is 10mm height x a little more than 7mm width x 6mm depth and the piece weighs 2.3 grams. The pin is in excellent condition, w/ no damage to the amethyst. It has a nice warm patina that I will leave as is. The patina was actually a little darker, but I gently used a polishing clothe on the outside, looking for a fineness mark. I made certain not to remove too much. I didn’t disturb the dark patina under the back rim though. Found at an estate sale years ago, I’ve wondered if it is a tie pin for men or a stick pin for women. This “old little treasure” will be a terrific addition to any fine jewelry collection!
