Antique Rorstrand Majolica Plate/Dish Green Man Neoclassical Border (a) Description Rorstrand Majolica Dish This beautiful majolica dish or plate was made by Rorstrand of Sweden. It has a turqoise glaze to the centre and reverse and an ornate border with scrolling foliage and neo-classical green man faces. The coloured design is emphasized by the dark red cold-painted borders and rim. It has an impressed Rorstrand mark on the underside. The plate is around 20cm (8 inches) in diameter. It has crazing to the glaze commensurate with age. The crazing can be seen on the underside and in the turquoise glaze on the top surface. There is normal wear for the age of the dish such as a little wear to the raised leaves in the chevrons in the central area. There is some wear to the gilding in the centre and the decoration on the rim (see photos). There is a hairline crack at the edge (see photo 4) which is barely visible on the top surface (just visible to the left edge of the green man's head and eyebrow in photo 2). It looks great on display as you can see in the main photo - I am listing another of these plates in a separate listing. I would be happy to quote on combined postage.
