This is a very rare Rosenthal R C Copenhagen bud vase made in Germany. The mark dates it to before 1906. It stands about 8 inches tall and it's diameter is about 4 inches.Rosenthal, full name, Phillip Rosenthal & Co. is one of Germany's finest porcelain makers, every bit as good as Royal Copenhagen, but without that coveted "Royal" name. The company used this RC and crowned crossed batons mark from around 1890 through to the 1930s. However the shape and design are pure Art Nouveau (or jugendstil as the Germans called it) and so dates to the earlier end of this range, circa 1900 - 1910.We know this because Rosenthal was deliberately emulating the look of some very successful Royal Copenhagen porcelain produced at that time (in the early 1900s) and adopted the word "COPENHAGEN" which was stamped in cobalt blue on the unfired clay as a trade name for that particular style of porcelain and soft blue & white figural decoration. The word 'Copenhagen' was used in the same way that companies use the word "Dresden" or "Capodimonte" to indicate a style rather than an origin. These were all beautifully made and hand painted (rather than printed) and would have been expensive porcelain in their day. They are hard to find these days.
