This is a stunning example of an early Roseville Art Pottery Donatello vase. Roseville is considered among the finest of American art potters, and the Donatello line is considered among Roseville's finest work. As most Donatello collectors know, most of the line was unmarked. This bulbous-based 103-8" is no exception. There is no evidence of crazing, and the mold is strong. The usual tree divides the cherub panels, as is common among Donatello pieces.The 103-8" vase does appear on Roseville's July 1916 price list, thus the style number dates to 1915. This vase does have a typical factory blemish which helps confirm authenticity.
