These traditional, rare and one of a kind pieces were designed by native artisans and Jewish silversmiths indigenous to Yemen and strongly influenced designs used in neighboring countries, like Oman , Saudi Arabia, and other gulf states . Theses designs has reached as far as Morocco , through the Yemeni tribes that comprised a major part of the Islamic Armies, that conquered north Africa and Spain, and influenced the traditional Berber Jewelry. Each silver bead was designed individually by hand, incorporating repoussK and chasting with unique granulation patterns, which is so exclusive to, and typical of, Yemen design. Many of these rare pieces incorporated red coral and turquoise with tiny, hand made and delicate granulated beads forming several geometric patterns that were very time consuming and tedious to create. Many other spectacular necklaces were made with round and globe type beads and some of the very rare red coral necklaces incorporate large, elongated beads decorated with tiny silver granulation and bezel-set turquoise. Red coral has always been very popular among the Bedouin because it symbolizes life. Other pieces are designed with carnelian or specially cut amber. All of which were highly valued. Nearly all necklaces that were commissioned for special occasions have at least one herz as the focal point of the piece. This elongated and intricately designed amulet case was often sealed containing a verse from the Holy Koran for protection from evil or, one end was purposely made removable by the designer to allow the wearer to choose their own verse and wear it inside of the herz. Typical of all Middle Eastern nations, bridal or wedding jewelry of very delicate, fine and unique design was given to the bride by her family and was hers alone, to keep as her personal property.
