I have been collecting antique schoolgirl samplers for almost 20 years and absolutely adore the little girls who made each and every one of them. If only we could go back in time and meet the sweet children who toiled over these samplers for months or years on end. This listing is for a a sampler from my collection. This was stitched by Harriet Powell, aged 10 years old, and dated 1843. Did you notice that she stitched the "4" backwards? How sweet! She also made a couple of misspellings in her lovely verse, which reads:"Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand As the late efforts of a youthful hand, And whilst her fingers on the canvis move Do though engage her thoughts to seek thy love Let her with thy dear children have a part And write thy name thyself upon her heart."Although I do not have a detailed history on this sampler maker, you can see that the sampler boasts some magnificent motifs of all kinds as well as a beautiful border. Harriet's workmanship was amazing, especially considering her young age of 10 years. The sampler is in excellent condition, considering it is almost 200 years old, with some fraying along the bottom edge and a couple of minor holes near the top right and bottom right. Those holes are difficult to see without magnification but I want to point them out.The framed sampler measures approximately 19" x 1
