You are bidding on a rare mint condition Seth Thomas adamantine veneered clock manufactured by the Seth Thomas Clock Co. around 1917. This is an excellent example of the BELMONT model in all original condition with the boy on fence pendulum weight and hard to find 2 bell Sonora strike. Seth Thomas patented the Sonora bell strike which consists of tuned brass bells and a wooden resonating chamber below the bells that yields a deep reverberating sound that is completely unique to this patented system. This is the finest example of a 2 bell Sonora "Ding-Dong" Strike that I have ever seen, just a beautiful and rare clock. The evidence of the patent is stamped on the outside of the resonating chamber as you can see in one of the photos. The case: The case is covered with rosewood adamantine veneer. Seth Thomas is well known for their "Adamantine" mantel clocks, which were made starting in 1882. Adamantine is a celluloid veneer, glued to the wood case. Adamantine veneer was made in black and white, and in colored patterns such as wood grain, onyx and marble. Adamantine veneer was developed by the Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York City, and was covered by U.S. Patent number 232,037, dated September 7, 1880. Seth Thomas Clock Company purchased the right to use the Adamantine veneer in 1881. The case on this clock has been cleaned read more
