Up for auction is an authentic, Victorian garnet necklace with SEVERAL HUNDRED individually hand cut (old mine cut) stones and with backing/base metal in German Silver. Dates from 1880 to 1890, this is the real thing, made in Southern Germany or in Bohemia, all by hand, highest quality, absolutely flawless with all its original stones, and no repairs. I took a lot of pics in different light trying to capture this piece, but it was hard...but the stones are DARK and beautiful, mostly like Pinot Noir color. All complete, all t, all perfect with no repairs, additions or damage of any kind. It could use a good cleaning, but that's it! This is an early style of silver/garnet, and you can tell because the high period Victorian pieces had no perforations or holes in the base metal to let light enter and lighten the stones. See from the pictures of the back, that the silver plates onto which the stones are set are unperforated. This style of manufacture gave way to a matrix of holes in the base metal, sometime around 1900 and is still used today. I had acutions of old garnet jewelery with and without perforations, so look at my completed recent auctions to see the difference. Made of a typical German medium quality silver, the piece is unstamped or marked that I can see. Hundreds of individually hand cut, polished and set OLD COLOR stones, read more
