SILVER Jules De Vere and Co. Paris (Montgomery Wards) E flat CORNET Neat Little Project INSTRUMENT NO CASE or MOUTHPIECE I am a long time trumpet player and former band teacher. I play trumpet and cornet with a municipal brass band still, and for my own satisfaction. I recently retired from my "day job", and need to empty out my collection, and sell some of my good beginner instruments here on the 'Bay, so I'm letting this horn go. I have collected trumpets for over 45 years. I have a special fascination for cornets, and although I have several trumpets and other instruments, I often use my cornets for playing in the brass band I perform in. This is a neat little Eb Cornet I picked up several years back thinking I'd be able to get it playing. All it really needs is a tuning bit and receiver and you could be playing a horn that is probably nearly 100 years old. All slides (except the second slide, which I think doesn't come out anyway) and valves are free. The plating is very good for its age. It may be nickel, or very heavy silver plating. The only place the plating is bad is on the receiver for the tuning bit, which appears to be a replacement. I have no way of knowing if it is high pitch or low pitch. I assume that will be a function of the tuning bit if you can find one. The valve plating is pretty good for a horn of this age. read more
