This is a beautiful antique glass mustard jar / sugar bowl made of a nearly opaque glass that has a silver overlay (which tested to be .8 pure silver). Don't know by which technique this silver was laid but its beautifully done and definitely could use a polish (I'll leave that to the pros rather than risk damaging the item). The thick, sturdy glass element appears black to the naked eye but when strong light passes through it reads as a dark red or a purple wine-ish color. Purchased in an antique shop many years ago, the hand written price sticker is still on the bottom: "Silver Overylay Mustard Jar $20.00". I don't think I'll let it go that cheap being that the sticker is at least 20 years old, but who knows? Weight: 11.1 oz Height: 4.75" high (lidded) or 2.75" (unlidded). Diameter of cup: 2.75" Interior Volume: 4 oz. There is a small scratch on the bottom of the cup (see pic 4). Ships carefully packed and insured via USPS Priority Mail.
