Antique silver plated teapot - ornate melon designwith Christofle strainer Although the age and origin of this teapot is unkown, it appears to be mid 19th Century and does have a mark on the base - see photo below. Appears to be a stylised letter 'm' with an indented dot or spiral. Lots of intricate engraving and ribbed melon design. two black (possibly ceramic) rings insulate the handle. There is a nut or pod on a leaf which acts as the knob to the lid. These are attached by a wing-nut under the lid. There is a removable silver plated strainer attached to the front of the spout by a brass split pin. There are two marks on the top edge of the strainer: a diamond with a set of balance scales and some letters inside and next to that is an oblong with 'CHRISTOFLE' stamped inside. Both of these marks are tiny and far too small to obtain a photograph. The teapot is 10.5" from spout to handle - excluding strainer, 6.25" wide and just over 6" high (270mm x 160mm x 155mm). The total weight is 29.25ozs or 828g. So far so good but now for the bad news! The nut or pod on the lid has been glued down, there is a bad split underneath the spout where it joins the body of the pot together with some waterdamage/staining (see photo below) and there are a number of dinks and surface marks.
