Description: This is a very old, estimated early to mid 19th century whiskey jug. It is primitive made, most likely wood fired, and the clay that was used is a light grey to tan colored, I beleive the clay would match that of jugs produced in southern Kentukey and Tennessee. This jug is in near perfect condition with only one flaw and that is a chip that is out of the handle. (see photo) The chip may have been from production, it appears to have been t for quit some time. This jug has a very unique lip around the spout of the jug and the handle has been applied by hand, with great care. The salt glaze has a very destinct orange peal effect to it and is a light tan to beige color, the inside of the jug appears to have been glazed as well with a dark brown glaze. T appears to be 2 different corks in the bottle, I have tried to remove them to identify the originality, but have been unable to get a hold of either of them to remove them , and I do not want to damage them. This Jug measures 9" tall and 8" in diameter This is an excellent example of an authentic southern whiskey jug from the Mid. 1800's I have never seen a better example. As always, I will entertain offers for a buy it now until someone has bid, As with all of our items, I will pack them very very well and I will require insurance with the purchase of this jug. Please
