Today I am offering a VERY unique item. This is a Staffordshire figurine of a castle, with a close attention to detail. I believe that it was produced in England in the 1850s . Like most Staffordshire figurines, it is not marked . It is composed of two towers, each of which has a bevy of round openings circled with black. In fact, these "windows" are across the entire front of the castle -- all 40 of them --I know.. .because I counted! The structure of the castle face emulates individual blocks of stone. Additionally, there are red and green clumps of vegetation all across the castle itself. The color of these clumps is a "chinese red" combined with a "celery green". Also, the attention to detail employed by the unknown potter e xtends to the back of the towers, which have the same stone blocks as in the front. I can only guess at the hours and hours of work it took to create this interesting piece of art. A Mystery: This is the ONLY Staffordshire castle figurine I have ever seen with a name emblazoned on the front. MALAKOEE. Is it a place? A person? And what could it mean? I spent hours researching...and the ONLY thing I came up with is this...quoted from The National Tribune, February 11th, 1886: "SCALING THE MALAKOEE. How a Bayonet Charge Ended the Crimean War.
