ANTIQUE Steamgauge & Lantern Co. Railroad kerosene Lantern. This very rare antique lantern was likely made between 1888 and 1897 prior to Dietz purchasing the Steam Gauge & Lamp; Lantern Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. and Chicago, Illinois. One side of the lantern says "Safety Tubular" and the other side says "No. I. B. S.G & L. Co".The framework is square tubing. The chimney lifts by a tab at the top of the chimney cover. A screw top lid covers the opening to fill the kerosene. It screws on/off easily. There is a wick in the burner. The w ick can be adjusted up/down by turning the knob left/right, as desired. No holes noted in the fuel tank, but it has not been tested or used to confirm. The original glass globe is free of cracks. The edges of the glass globe are rough with small knicks which is normal for it's age, but there are no cracks. There is surface rust over portions of the lantern, otherwise appears to be in really good condition. It measures approximately 14 1/2" (20 1/2" with handle up) tall and 7" wide at the widest point.
