Antique Sterling Mechanical "Populist" Pencil by Sampson Mordan * C1898 This interesting English mechanical pencil is sterling silver (marked) and was made by Sampson Mordan & Co. They called it the Populist Pencil. It has a barley twist barrel and a fluted ball. The nozzle has all of its parts and works perfectly (twists out the lead). Aside from some tiny dings in the nozzle, it's in excellent condition with no repairs or other damage. It's marked "Mordan & Co." and measures 3 7/8" long. One is shown on p. 199 of Deborah Crosby's book Victorian Pencils .
