This is a beautiful antique framed and glazed Stevengraph or silk picture which was woven on a Jacquard loom and which probably dates to the late Victorian period around 1890-1900. It depicts the City of Coventry and the mount is marked "Woven In Silk By T. (Thomas) Stevens, Coventry Ltd. It is in a very handsome period frame with a glorious band of copper (or possibly simulated copper) flowers and foliage. There are a few small brown foxing marks in the sky, but otherwise, the condition of the picture is very good. There are a couple of nicks to the gesso on the edge of the frame, but this does not detract unduly. The frame measures approx 25.625" (65cm) x 18.75" (47.5cm) x 1.5" (3.75cm), while the silk is 12.75" (32.5cm) x 7.25" (18.5cm). It is too large and too heavy to be accepted for Airmail overseas shipping by Royal Mail as it stands. Therefore, any overseas buyer should only bid on the understanding that the frame will not be included. It is possible that the mount may be included but I can not be certain until the frame is removed and the mount is measured. Likewise, I am unable to provide a shipping cost until the frame is opened, but it should not be too much, as most of the weight is in the frame and the glass.
