Please note – this Leopard skin rug dates to c1930’s, pre-dating 1947 laws and can therefore be legally sold within Europe without documentation or a licence. European bidders only please. Beautiful 1930’s antique Leopard skin rug with full mounted head, black canvas backing and maroon scalloped edging, in completely original condition. Likely to have been prepared by one of London’s renowned taxidermy firms, Rowland Ward, Edward Gerrard & Sons or Army & Navy Stores. There is no longer a taxidermist’s trade label, but the way in which the snarling head has been modelled, and material used for the backing are all very characteristic of these taxidermist’s work. Condition of the skin is good considering its age and has retained lovely colour. There are a few original small repairs to slits and some patched areas of fur, but overall very good as can be seen in the photos. There are 16 claws in total: 4 front right, 5 front left, 3 back right, 4 back left. The head has been realistically modelled with a snarling open mouth, with real teeth and skull. A couple of original whiskers on either side of the head still remain also. The left eye is missing, and the backing material and felt edging are loose, not attached to the skin from the tail/back legs onwards.
