Antique Thai Ayutthaya Buddha Head Bronze This Buddha head was purchased in Ayutthaya , Thailand in February 1970 and came from my father's estate. He was a world traveler and avid collector of Asian art. An attractive Ayutthaya-style bronze Buddha head from a statue, now mounted on a teak wood stand. Lovely serene expression with soft features and barely-open eyes. Long and elegant earlobes balance nicely with the opposing points on the head. The tip of the right earlobe is missing. The back of the head displays an intricate pattern of plaiting of the hair, or perhaps it is part of an ornate headdress. A brocade-style headdress crosses the forehead adding a lovely courtliness. Beautiful artistry and craftsmanship. The flame finial is missing at the top of the head; it was a clean break that is relatively flat. The head was no doubt buried at one time as t is residual soil accretion and verdigris. Specks of gold leaf are visible in several spots. A very small hole was drilled in the bottom for eventual mounting, though when my father purchased the head it did not come with a base. If you have any questions about this piece, please email me prior to bidding. Serious bidders only. Thank you. The Buddha head measures 2-1/3 inches tall and 1-5/8 inches wide. Weight is 5.6 ounces. 1038J
