Up For Auction Is..... ☼☼☼ Antique Copper Wall Mirror Rack Spanish American War "Remember The Maine" Dewey ☼☼☼ This is an original period piece 1898 I was told it was purchased from the DeMenil Mansion in St. Louis Mo. I think this is tin tole copper . It has all the original h ardw ar e but the mirror appears to have been replaced It is about .... 18" x 18" square but hangs from the corner with Admiral George Dewey at the top . Also depict ed are Rear Admiral William T. Sampson and Lt. Richmond Pearson Hobson Below the mirror is the USS Maine and the slogan " Remember the Maine",which was the most remembered battle cry during the war There is some damage to the tin tole frame visible in photo # 10, but this piece is well over 100 years old Please v iew all the photos as these are a big part of my description The shipping price includes insurance on th is Wonderful piece of United States Military History This is a photo of the USS Maine and some history from WikipediaThe Maine is best known for her catastrophic loss in Havana Harbor on the evening of 15 February 1898. Sent to protect U.S. interests during the Cuban revolt against Spain, she exploded suddenly without warning and sank quickly, killing nearly three quarters of her crew. The cause and responsibility for her sinking remained unclear after a board of inquiry.
