NEW INFORMATION: I just found a mark on the dowell right under the name plate that reads: "H.C. Nelson N. Evanston Ill" I believe this to be an antique banjo. My neighbor passed away and he had several instuments. I don't know anything about instruments. I took several pictures so you can have a close look. If you have any questions, please email me and I'll get back to you right away. It is a 5 string, open back banjo with a name plate on the dowel stick that says, "The Nelson Chicago Music Co. 195 & 197 Wabash Ave. Chicago". Has a pearl star in the peghead and "No Knot" on the tail piece. There is also some numbers on the side of the banjo written on tape. I don't know if this is model number or serial number. It's missing one string. There is a pearl diamond missing and a tiny hole (see photo). Also, I think the knobs on the back of the head may have been replaced? There are 29 metal brackets around the banjo, 7 look like they're missing the ball at the end. Measures 34 1/2 inches long.
