This particular chisel is as follows:* Tanged, handle not included* 3/8" straight cutting edge, paring style chisel* 7 1/2" long overall, 3/16" tall at thickest part of blade* marked "THE JAMES SWAN Co. (swan picture ) SEYMOUR, CONN. U.S.A." For sale through our store are original, unused James Swan chisels. These chisels are from a lot obtained from a Boston hardware store that acquired its inventory from Seymour, CT and warehoused it in the middle of the last century. James Swan was in operation from the mid 1800's to the mid 1900's, so this tool dates from somew in that range. Some of the tools in this lot were restamped Douglass Co. originals, a company James Swan bought out in 1877, so it is possible that these tools date pre-1900's.
