This name of exquisite silk embroideries comes from persian "suzan" which means "a needle". Uzbek-Tadjik silk handmade suzanis give us an opportunity to have an insight into the old culture and traditions of these lands. Such works of Art were prepared and used for ceremonial functions like wedding doweries, fittings for horsemen and their horses, and the general embellishment of reception rooms. As soon as daughter was born in the family, mother started to make suzanis for her dowry, and later her daughter joined her in this fine art too. The patterns of suzanis are an expression of women's mood and fantasies. Suzanis are the last exponents of an age-old tradition which draw our attention by their mysteriousness and beauty. This is a vintage silk handmade embroidery from Leninabad, Tadjikistan. The approximate age of the item is early the 20th century. The foundation of embroidery is cotton fabric of black color. This item has a very beautiful Tadjik design. The pattern of the embroidery is composed of the vortex rosette stylized Moon surrounded with flowers, leafs and stems.
