This is so the auction won't end on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!! *** This auction is for a wonderful pair of late Victorian era seed pearl earrings. The wee, round earring face has a fabulous design embossed with ornate swags that create a fancy center cross. Snowy white enamel decorates the edge and a unique "spatterware" or "graniteware" blue enamel embellishes the cross. The heart of the earring glows with a tiny seed pearl. These genuine gems measure 1.5mm each and have a creamy white color with a deep luster. The earring face is gilded brass, the vintage style ear wires are solid 14k yellow gold. We so love these enamels...could the person who made these wonderful little works of art have ever realized that we would still be coveting them all these years later? Perhaps not, because they were made circa 1890 as buttons. Buttons for an wonderful gown or your very best kid gloves, but buttons none the less. We've pictured a lovely later Victorian / Edwardian era lady pridefully wearing a jacket decorated with tiny decorative buttons and another gal wearing a pair of earrings remarkable like the ones we offer here. The last two photos of a period gown. Look close at the buttons at the waist on the back and you'll see they are also blue and white enameled. The earrings measure a sweet and feminine 8.7mm in diameter and hang just 3/4 inches long in the ear. They weigh a total of 1.6 total grams, whisper light and comfortable for all day. The earrings and enamels are in excellent condition showing almost no wear from their last 120 years of use. For those of you who love the earrings we make but have despaired at how big they can sometimes be, then these are the earrings for you. We are professional jewelers with a eye tuned to see beauty...and we see it every where, even in ornaments as humble as cufflinks and antique clothing buttons! Long time ebayers know us from the many, many pair of earrings we list and sell ; those that are upcycled and made from old cufflinks and Victorian buttons. Over the last six plus years we have successfully made and auctioned so many, many pairs of fabulous earrings. Every pair of our earrings are signed with a "A" in a diamond shape...we're very proud to stand behind our work and the "Ace of Diamond" trademark is the proof. After opening the old thread loops to act as "catchers" we attached the solid 14k gold ear wires using our laser welder. The welder literally uses a laser beam to perfectly fuse the metals together; no sloppy solders or ruinous torch flame. We always use solid 14k so you have "good" gold for your ears...we don't want less, why would you? Some gals have been nervous about wearing the shepherd hook wires but are always relieved the find that the catchers make them very secure. No more fumbling with (and losing!) little ear nuts...that and the wires give these earrings a eye catching bit of swing. We can't help wonder what type of dress these buttons decorated. Did they travel to Europe on the Grand Tour? Perhaps they waltzed in a ballroom under a crystal chandelier. The best of gowns, the finest gloves, all would soil and fade but someone treasured them and the memory of a special day enough to save these magnificent buttons as a keepsake. For this we are so very grateful because they make a glorious pair of earrings.
