Beautiful Victorian Mourning Hair Jewelry set, consisting of a necklace with a cross and a pair of (incomplete) 2 acorn bulb drops. The necklace is broken; all pieces of the clasp are present, but the section of hair attached to the clasp has broken. Both of the earring hooks are missing, and one of the acorn bulbs is missing the gold trim. The hair sections closest to the clasp do have some wear; please see pictures. With clasp, the necklace measures 16” long. The strong, delicate looking clasp appears to be either gold or gold-filled, as do the gold spacers and the acorn bulb trim pieces; there are no markings. The clasp is monogrammed MCD, I think; the script is very small. There is a third acorn bulb included in the set. I do not know its purpose, but it does have a small gold ring on it. It could possibly be used by the purchaser to extend or repair the necklace. It’s mind-boggling to actually think that this necklace is made of human hair hand-woven in such a way to be strong enough to wear as a necklace. The intricacy of work is amazing. If you have any questions or want more information, please feel free to contact me. Jewelry is sold as-is, in a used, antique condition.
