Antique Vintage Brass Plume & Atwood 5” Shade Globe Holder Ring 1873 1877This holder sits on the lamp burner and supports a 4.5” to 5” diameter shade / globe. Note the inside rim in photos #1 and #2.The smaller opening at the bottom is 2 5/8"It is approximately 1 1/4" tallIt is made entirely of brass, including the set screws.It is in excellent condition and has the original patina; it has not been polished. It does need a little bit of “straightening” but it is undamaged and solid.Photo #2 is the top view; photo #3 is the bottom view.It was probably mostly used with the early Sandwich and other kerosene “stand” lamps of the 1860s and 1870s. Types of shades that would go on this ring are shown in the last two photos. Shades are only for illustration purposes; they are not included in this auction.This shade / globe ring was patented by Lewis J. Atwood of the Plume and Atwood Co, Waterbury, CT, in 1873 and again in 1877. P & A sold a full line of lamps and lamp trimmings, including shade rings of all descriptions, according to . Was able to trace this ring to P & A through the US Patent Office archives.Postage based on 12 ounces, first class mail.
