Exquisite Antique Silver Cigarette/Card Case River Oaks Estate, Houston This is an absolutely incredible late Nineteenth century or Early 20th Century Silver Cigarette Case or Calling Card Holder. I found this beauty at a River Oaks Estate in Houston, Texas. This was one of two I brought back with me. It is stunning and I was tempted to keep it. is what I found out: the owner's wife told me that it was her late husband's father's. She is 99 years old. So I'm sure this piece is older than she is. It measures 6 inches by a little over 3 inches. Inside it is marked SILVER. T is no maker's mark, but an antique dealer told me that pre turn-of-the-century often silver smiths did not crest a maker's mark or sign their pieces. He said he felt relatively certain that it was solid silver but that he knew that it was at least 800 or Coin Silver which means 800 of 1000 parts PURE Silver, w 925 is 925 parts of 1000 Pure Silver. This dealer told me that he thought it was one of the nicest pieces he had ever seen. He said the condition was mint and that it looked as if it had been stored and never used - another indication that it may be pure silver.
