I know almost nothing about this particular violin. I only know that it was one of the ones recovered after a theft of my late father's collection during the late 1970's or early 1980's. It would also make a fun restoration project for a luthier since it has attractive book-matched flamed maple on the back and the sides are also flamed maple and the neck appears to be a solid maple with flame as well. I think the top is European spruce. If this exact wood was used on a guitar, I would covet it and trade my car for it on the spot. If you know anyone in California who wants a LexusSC400, I'm selling/trading it too. I'll even trade it for a non-sports car. New car, new image. I'll be making guitars for a living if I can find some financial backing. This violin is definitely old and the strings popped off while it was stored for the last 25 years. I'm moving and I need to sell a lot of items within the next two weeks. Two weeks isn't very long! I noticed that one of the tuning pegs is missing but they are available right on good old eBay. The bow is also lost / missing but it has an arched case which could be re-covered. I'll also include the two strings (an and a D) pictured. They are Medium tone SUPER SENSITIVE stainless strings with "tone filler" inside! They are made with stainless steel and Bakelite! Bakelite? So, the strings are antiques too!!! What an amazing deal! Don't laugh too hard. I used to have to listen to my dad play this thing when I was a kid. That must count for something! Maybe that's why I cringe when I hear sirens or imaginary maidens screeching for mercy down that spiraling staircase in the dungeons in my twisted mind. Or it could just be a common sonic allergy.... If you are a violin expert and know more than I do (naturally, you would know quite a bit more or you wouldn't be an "expert") don't bother messaging me just to tell me that this is not a real Stradivarius. I already figured that out, since I would not be a starving musician/artist; but a very wealthy artist with real estate and maybe a big boat- just like my landlord who just gave me notice to move! The maker's seal is interesting but hard to get a good picture of with my outdated camera. I would describe the logo as a lion with a bird's beak, smoking a pipe. The front legs of the beast are resting on a pedestal or triangular plaque and I can't read the printing on it. It makes one curious what's in that pipe the beast is smoking and if he uses his nails instead of a bow. I imagine it's a copy, of course but may still be useful to someone. Most musical instruments are copies and I've seen some that are actually better than the originals. Don't get me wrong, I have no illusions that this is a true "facebot anno 1713 Stradivarius." The label reads "Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis." It was made in Czhecoslovakia and has the number 1027 and also St 03 590 66. It has two bridges which are both stamped Aubert. One has "Aubert a Mirecourt" and has a dark wood insert for one string, which I find interesting. I'd trade it for a Flamenco guitar in similar condition or one that's smashed-up that you are using as a wall-hanger. I'm a guitarist and have been since I was 8 years old. Although I appreciate the violin and its' relatives, I never studied the instrument. If this was a guitar this old with the wood this instrument has, it would be valuable. So, have fun bidding.
