's the cardinal rule on these gorgeous gold leaf hand painted masterpieces. Even I have a hard time anymore lifting even the smallest ones. I have them cleaned, lubricated and originally restored in every room of the house. I have many small Meilink, Victors, Herring Hall, J Baum, Cary , Alpine, Mosler, and Diebold safes. The key is to have the original gold leaf paint, and filigree in original condition with personal name or company name and logo intact. I have seen these beautiful original painted foundry safes sand blasted and completely over restored bring $2000.00 with a newly painted Wells Fargo glossy logo. My first impression is to throw up! These original pieces of truly one of a kind American folk art have been ruined for some sleaze weasel attorney's game room! The second rule is.... no restorations. Original condition only is the most important!
