Antique Wemyss ware cherry teapot This Wemyss cherry teapot is a nice example, but has old staple repairs to the spout, which I have clearly shown in the photos. It also appears to have been used for tea, which kind of adds to its charm! Again I have detailed this in the photos as you can see from the inside of the teapot. The handle is good, and has not been broken off! The crazing is pretty minimal there is more to the lower half and it is slightly creamier then the top, probably because of the tea! I believe the teapot was probably painted approximately around 1900-1911 as the cherries are flatter than older versions, but it does have gold to the leaves. There is a chip to the teapot lid edge, which I have clearly detailed in the photos; however this is hardly noticeable when the lid is in place. There is also a small crack to the bottom of the teapot spout which I have also shown in the photo as well as some smaller nibbles to the tip of the spout. There is no Wemyss impressed mark to the teapot, but there is a clear painted signature. I have checked the signature with the signature in the Wemyss ware decorative Scottish Pottery book written by Peter Davis and Robert Rankine and it looks to be painted by Karel Nekola’s son – Joe Nekola, who tended to put a full stop at the end of his Wemyss signature.
