*****************International and zero feedback must contact for approval to bid please********************** Fantastic Antique Handmade Wooden Canteen with Metal Straps Carved Initials, Decorated with Stars Burned or Cut into the WoodThe Wood has Shrunk and the Patina and Age are wonderful. I believed this to be from the Civil War but all the references indicate this is probably a Revolutionary War Canteen, I have had items of wood with a similar depth of color and wear that were 18th century, which I believe this is, It certainly has the wear and construction details. Rings on both sides still t ,very rusty weatd old metal straps. Handmade wooden canteens were carried by soldiers on the battlefield in George Washington's Army in the late 1700's This is Awesome Old , Old Primitive Early American Folk Art .Please use your experience and own judgment in determining if this is Historical American War Memoribilia.I am happy to provide any additional pictures or information. I had an old Oak Nail Barrel that was made in strips of oak fitted together like this and held with iron,metal bands. It could actually hold water it was so tightly fitted, this would have also when it was made I'm sure. It has a loose cork rattling around inside. This may be pyrography or just carving that has darkenedwith age and time. Fascinating, Very Cool Item. read more
