Up for auction is a vintage antique woodenware folk art carved hatchet recently found in the northern Indiana area. It is found in good used condition featuring a stylized chip carved American flag, with what appears to be eyes at the bottom. I believe it to be carved out of one piece of wood, although its possible that it was set in place extremely well. The handle is also skillfully carved. Losses and nicks are noted on what would be the axe blade itself, with the upper tip is missing. There appears to be a very tight hairline through the axe head, but it is tight. It maybe a repair. Nice natural patina. Two braids are used for hanging. They can be removed if needed. Overall size is approximately 20 1/4" x 1" x 5 1/2" in size. A nice folk art piece of Americana.
