our other antique radios! We post new listings of antique radios frequently! Just prior to the United States’ entry into WWII, many companies were designing products with subtle patriotic themes. Zenith also participated by designing this amazing tombstone radio which not only features the expected Zenith quality but also reflects the company’s show of patriotism. This is one you won‘t find very often……. Here we have a rare 1939 Zenith 6-S-330 ‘Long Distance’ Tombstone Radio. This stunning set features a spectacular bright black dial, highly desirable ‘Stars and Stripes’ escutcheon, fiery burl photo finish, split second tuning, pushbutton tuning, and superior performance on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands. Cabinet: The cabinet is simply stunning featuring a fiery burl photo finish. A black inlay runs across the bottom of the set complimented nicely by a dark walnut top. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. All of this comes together amazingly with the large, bright, black dial surrounded by Zenith‘s rare ‘Stars and Stripes‘ escutcheon, which was only used on a couple of models. This elegant beauty is sure to be the main attraction of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The Cabinet’s Finish: All of our radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process using a minimum 12 coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. A 1000, 2000, & 4000 grit wet sanding follows every third coat. The cabinet is finished off with a three step polishing process ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into these radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful cabinet with gorgeous luster & shine. During the restoration process on this set some normal checking in the photo finish was blended and protected with lacquer. Only visible up close and in extreme lighting, nothing that detracts from the beauty of this set. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the house or office. Dial/Knobs: Just look at that large, bright black dial displaying all the AM and Shortwave frequencies! Nothing compares to these dials and this one is in spectacular shape. It lights very bright and all numbers and letters indicating station frequencies are legible and show no signs of wear. The dial glass is perfect with no chips, cracks, or breaks. The airplane style ’Z’ Pointer is perfect and turns nicely around the dial as does it‘s sleek red pointer partner for split second super fine tuning. The rare ‘Stars and Stripes’ escutcheon is in excellent condition and compliments the large black dial magnificently. All ivory pushbuttons are in great shape and fully functional, however it is recommended you use the manual tuning due to the age of the tuning mechanism. All four ’Z’ knobs are perfect and work as they should; tone, on/off & volume, tuning, band switch. Electronics/Chassis: The powerful 6 tube chassis has been electronically restored and plays great. All caps, filters, and resistors have been checked and replaced as needed. All tubes have been tested and brittle wires replaced. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed and re-aligned for optimal performance. I‘m able to pick up many stations on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands. Superb reception with these 'Long Distant' sets which can pull in stations across the world with plenty of volume and deep rich tone. I will include a 30 day warranty on the tubes, caps and filters.
